The Process
Round 1: Research and Planning
Within the first week, we were assigned to create a convention topic based off the entertainment and recreation industry. We started off by researching other existing conventions within our industry vertical.
Round 2: Analyzing and Proposals
We were then given the constraint to incorporate the theme of positivity in our mission statement. I discussed with my partner, Youjean Cho, and we decided that our interests lied in filming and VR gaming. We researched more on our narrowed down industries and wanted to focus on inclusivity and adding to our own relationships. Our three proposals were relationships in cinema, representation of disabilities in cinema and TV production, and empowering those with disabilities through Virtual Reality. Each including a Vision statement, USP, CVP, customers, relation to positive theme, time frame, location, and speaker list.
Round 3: Ideation
Proceeding with our third proposal, Inclusivity and empowerment through Virtual Reality. Our next task was to narrow down our values and create a personality for our brand. We came up with six different values that we wanted to focus in on for our convention:
Innovation, Resilience, Inclusivity, Empathy, Entertainment, and Creativity*
Based off of our values, we wrote down corresponding personalities and picking our favorite ones from the list to create a rough overlook of the visuals and feel of our brand.
Round 4: Naming Ideation
During round 4, Youjean and I went through 3 exercises to ideate possible names for our conference. The first exercise we described what made our convention unique, the benefits based of uniqueness, and verbs and nouns that came from them.
A. From then, we grouped the descriptions and words that we ideated into separate themes.
Exercise two: Based off the themes, we associated verbs and nouns, benefits, uniqueness, and visuals that correspond with them.
Exercise three: We pulled the visuals from exercise two and ideated names that were literal, wordplay, and abstract. We narrowed down the names we both liked and had potential. We chose Unplug, Infinite, Powerup, Enkindle, Blnk, and RiseVR.
Round 5: Posters
During this phase, we were given directions to create four different designs of posters based off Fragmentation, Separation, Inversion, and Fusion. Each of us had to create at least one iteration of each poster style.
